Visual Studio 2008 will come out in ... 2008!
At a partners event in Denver, Microsoft disclosed its plans for formally releasing Windows Server 2008, Visual Studio 2008 and Microsoft SQL Server 2008. COO Kevin Turner said the company will launch all these products together at an event in Los Angeles on Feb. 27, 2008.
Included in Visual Studio 2008 will be Visual Studio 2008 Shell, a base integrated development environment that can host custom tools and programming languages.
The release plans for Visual Studio 2008 came at the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference 2007, where CEO Steve Ballmer discussed best practices for what Microsoft calls a 'software-plus-services' delivery model for products.
''Everyone in our industry is rethinking the relationship between software and services,” Ballmer said in a prepared statement. "We believe the future is in software plus services - combinations that give customers more options and create great new opportunities for partners.''

I remember Hailstorm
''Everyone in our industry is rethinking the relationship between software and services,” Ballmer said in a prepared statement. I remember that being said back in 2000 when Hailstorm was Microsoft's baby. I guess if you say it long enough, say for 20 or 30 years or so and it eventually comes true then you were right? If they do turn out to be right, it wont be on a computer that I am accessing all these services, it will be on my TV.
