Eclipse vying with Visual Studio
A recent Evans Data survey showed that the adoption rate of Eclipse has more than doubled in Europe, raising the Eclipse IDE (integrated development environment) as a challenge to Microsoft Visual Studio.Net among developers there. [eWeek]
Other findings from the Evans Winter 2006 survey showed that 42 percent of EMEA developers use XML, and the use of AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML) grew by 12 percent over the last survey. In addition, developers surveyed said they consider Java frameworks to be the most important Java feature for their development projects. At the same time, the use of refactoring more than doubled during the period.

What is your take? Should Microsoft offer some type of Eclipse plug-in support?

What are they saying ?
Are they saying that there are many Java developers in EMEA and that they do not use Visual Studio ?
Neither of theese are particular surprising.
Are they saying that developers use Eclipse for development in C# or other .NET languages ?
That would be very interesting.
Especially if they would tell what C# plugin they use.
Because what I have seen so far in this area is not in any way useful.

+1 Now there is sutdy that would have some meat to it. Would it not be more appropriate to take a look at say SharpDevelop and see what sort of adoption rates are happening there?
