Frameworks come into focus at Patterns & Practices Summit
The yearly Patterns & Practices Summit in Redmond kicked of this week with a look at software frameworks. Brad Abrams provided the keynote. Admitting that he’d been looking a lot at Ajax of late, and was tempted to go with that new cool technology, the co-author of “Framework Design Guidelines” instead took on the topic at hand, advising software architects to one, Treat Simplicity as a Feature; two, Know the User; Think “Development Ecosystem;” three, Use the Power of Consistency; and, four, Design to Last. Rocky Lhtoka, Tom Hollander and others also discussed different aspects of architecture in the .NET space.

No mention of OO Principles
The drivers manual example is classic! "Oh I am supposed to push the PRESS button", I have written software like that!
On the downside thought, I was hoping for something a little more "insightful". These examples where descriptions of common OO principles and designs, without acutally using the words "Factory Method" and "Law Of Demeter". Hopefully future presentations will have less common topics.
