Book excerpt: Framework Design Guidelines

Posted by: Regina Lynch on April 03, 2006 DIGG
Framework Design Guidelines teaches developers best practices for designing system frameworks and reusable libraries for use with the Microsoft .NET Framework and WinFX. This book focuses on the design issues that directly affect the programmability of a framework, specifically its publicly accessible APIs.

Chapter 4 of Framework Design Guidelines, titled "Type Design Guidelines," presents patterns that describe when and how to design classes, constructs and interfaces. In this chapter, Abrams and Cwalina divide types into four groups and discuss the do's and don'ts of type design.

This book is a must have.

We used it for our Framework Coding Guidelines on my last project.

Other books I recommend to my team:

That book is excellent. In addition to that I suggest every .NET Architect must read Pro .NET 2.0 Code and Design Standards in C# by Mark Horner, APress.
